Reviews Holiday Inn Venezia - Venice

We stayed here for only one night. The room was large, reasonably priced, quiet and nice in general, but the bathroom was smelly. It looked clean but actually was not. It wasn't until late that night that we found out why....there was dried urine on the side of the toilet bowl. We realize they would have happily relocated us had we told them right away, but we were tired and leaving early the next day anyway, so we just cleaned it ourselves. When I told them the next morning, they were appalled and scolded me for not calling them immediately. Frankly, I didn't think too much of the smell, because their van that drove us from Piazzale Roma to the hotel had the same odor.

The restaurant was WONDERFUL! It was probably one of the best dinners I have ever eaten in Venezia. (I've been there 7 times). Our breakfast was not included, unbeknownst to me until we arrived in the dining room. When they learned of the bathroom problem, I felt they should have compensated us for the breakfast to make up for an unclean bathroom. But Italy is not what we are used to in America, so I was not surprised. Nothing was done to make up for that smelly situation. They told me it was too late to do anything about that and I should have complained right away.....which I know I should have.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful during our brief stay there.

We had actually booked the wrong Holiday Inn....we meant to book the one closest to the Airport but it did not show up on the internet in my search so I thought it WAS the closest. Meanwhile, a 20 minute taxi ride to the airport cost us .00 Euros! So when I reply below about WHY we chose that hotel....it is really not accurate. I had thought it was the correct location for our needs for that one night. But I learned that we could have been 5 minutes from the airport in the other Holiday Inn.

Because of its location, I would not stay there again. I think it is perfect for people who cannot afford to stay right IN Venezia and don't mind taking a van at specific times to the Piazzale Roma. The traffic to and from that place is really heavy though. Since there is one closer to the airport, that would be my first choice for the evening before departure home. Otherwise, I would just stay IN Venezia for the convenience and pay more, as I always do.

-We had to pay for the parking everytime we left the hotel, although us was told that it was free of charge!! Is there a deal between the parkingemployee and the reception staff????? (Total cost 2x8euro and 2x 1 euro)...

-We were with 3 persons, 2 adult and 1 child, but we were charged for 3 adult persons. (The breakfast was free for the child)

-Pity there was n't a -little- swimmingpool.

I expected a bit more from Holiday Inn. The room was noisy, we were not informed of a adjacent room with the connecting doors. We’ll never stay there again.
