The Aeolian islands in the province of Messina can be reached year round by a hydrofoil boat leaving from the ports of Milazzo, Messina and Reggio Calabria, and by a ferryboat leaving from the ports of Milazzo and Naples.
During the summer, there is also a hydrofoil boat connecting to the ports of Palermo and Naples, Sant’Agata di Militello and Cefalù. The hydrofoil boats connect Lipari with Vulcano and Salina year round with several trips a day. Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi can be reached from Lipari twice a day during the winter, while several trips are made daily during the summer.
Cars can be taken on Siremar boats from the port of Naples.
From Sicily, cars can be taken on boats from Milazzo run by Siremar and Navigazione Generale Italiana.
By train
The local train station is the Milazzo station, which connects to Messina and Palermo.
By plane
The local airports are:

- Palermo - Punta Raisi International Airport.
