General Description
The Hotel La Locanda is located in the historic centre of Volterra close to the the archaeological site of the Roma Amphitheatre (I century B.C.), just a short distance from the Florentine medieval port.
This unique hotel was established in an ancient monastery. In the second half of the XVIII century, the owner was Anton Filippo Giachi, an Etruscan historian, to whom there is a plaque dedicated at the entrance. During his time, Etruscan cinerary urns and funerary urns from the Hellenistic period were found on the façade of the palace that depicted fantastic animals and scenes of travels in the underworld that he discovered during the excavations he conducted.

The closest train station is the Saline di Volterra station, around 10km away from the centre of Volterra. It is connected to the Cecina station, but the trips do not run frequently.
